The Last Resort was founded in 1999, after scouting the Nepal-Tibet border area intensively for the perfect place to build an adventure resort. The present location, on top of the steep Bhote Kosi River gorge, was finally chosen because of the almost unlimited possibilities for many kinds of adventure sports and its tremendous natural beauty.
The Last Resort sits in a beautiful spot on a ridge above the Bhote Kosi river, 101km (61mi) from Kathmandu and just 12km (7.5mi) from the Tibet border. Access is by suspension bridge across the river, and it's here that Nepal's only bungy jump is set up.
Accommodation at the resort is in comfortable standard (four-person) or deluxe (two-person) safari tents, dotted around lovely landscaped grounds, with the focus being the soaring stone-and-slate dining hall and Instant Karma bar. Luxury comes in the form of gas-heated slate showers, a plunge pool and sauna, with massages and yoga often available. The cost of accommodation includes meals and transport to and from Kathmandu. Most people are drawn to Asia's highest bungy jump (you can hear the screams echoing around the valley), plus there's also canyoning, rafting on the Bhote Kosi, trekking, mountain biking and rock climbing, with a range of packages that combine any or all of the above activities.
Next a huge variety of plants and trees were planted to landscape the resort surroundings and we built an open dining hall using local materials and labor. We chose safari tents as accommodation to give our guests the simple luxuries of sleeping in a comfortable bed while enjoying the sounds of nature.
The Last Resort since continues to improve and expand its facilities and services. We now offer sauna, massage and a plunge pool and a wide range of activities like hiking, canyoning, bungy jumping, canyon swinging, mountain biking, rafting, kayaking, rock climbing and teambuilding. With all operations we always makes sure that the local community profits too.
The Last Resort is set amidst sprawling terraces, suspended on a high cliff-top gorge above the wild Bhote Kosi River and surrounded by dense jungle and pristine forest. Limited access across our purpose built bridge guarantees privacy in this magnificent area.
The grounds of the resort are meticulously landscaped and luxurious safari tents are spaciously set in lush gardens to ensure guests a quiet and peaceful stay in an exotic setting.
Uniquely crafted in local stone, wood and slate, the resort has an intimate dining hall with centuries old wood-carving where delicious home style food is served. The well stocked Instant Karma bar is a great place for having chilled drinks when the day is done and you are left thirsty.
