Mera Peak Trek – Introductory Climbing - 19 Days

Not only is Mera Peak Nepal's highest classified 'trekking peak', it is also technically the most straightforward and offers the greatest all-round view of the Himalayan mountains from its summit - this includes Everest and four more of the world's 8,000 and above metre-high peaks. The view of the Himalayas from the summit of Mera Peak is truly one of the most impressive and dramatic that can be had.

No prior experience of trekking or climbing is required.

The Climb

The climb from base camp to the top of Mera Peak involves a moderately steep walk up the Mera Glacier followed by ascent of a final steep snow slope to a flat and spacious summit. Although the overall difficulty of the climb is equivalent to Alpine Grade F (easy), you will be ascending at a very high altitude. The trek from Lukla to Mera Peak and back again allows sufficient time for acclimatization and is a classic journey in its own right, throwing up multiple opportunities for exploration of a maze of valleys and lesser peaks along the route.

Accommodation & Guidance

  • The trek will run on a tea house (lodge) basis between Lukla and Khare (base camp), thereby providing cheap lodging for participants and assisting local entrepreneurs, many of whom are still establishing their businesses. An experienced, friendly and helpful trekking guide will be with participants at all times, both en route to Khare and on the return trek to Lukla.
  • At Khare, participants will be met and welcomed by our friendly team of Sherpas stationed at base camp who will be equipped with food, water, medical supplies, all necessary climbing gear and tents. This team of Sherpas will guide participants to the summit of Mera Peak and escort them back to base camp, providing all necessary support.

Testimonials

1. Shannon Bartier -

"Just wanted to say thank you for a fabulous time we had on our trek to Everest Base Camp and Chitwan Jungle Adventure (November 2012). I bought vouchers ...and not knowing what to expect, I was blown away by the standard of accommodation we received, both in Kathmandu and Chitwan. The local guides were so friendly and helpful...I wouldn't have made Base Camp without Bimal's help! I have been raving to everyone since returning home about how fantastic our 'holiday' was. Thank you again!".
